Life’s family make-up is changing and through Huston’s books, she introduces the nucleus family unit in her books. Huston was inspired to write books because as a child, she did not see herself in dolls or books. It is so important to include groups not widely represented to ensure all children feel like they belong. Juju is the main character and one that children can relate to as her books are written “through the eyes of children.” His family is inter-racial who pull together through difficult times.
